Schwarzbart, Ignacy
Ignacy Schwarzbart was a member of the Polish National Council. He reworded and spread reports received by the Polish government in exile in London from the Polish underground about mass executions at the Belzec Camp using electrocution chambers, which is rejected as untrue by all historians today. Schwarzbart’s reports were subsequently spread by major Jewish media outlets, such as the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and The New York Times. Schwarzbart’s text was used by the Polish agent and black propagandist Jan Karski to further elaborate on the theme.
